If you have been chosen as a good candidate for PRP hair restoration. You are probably excited about getting your procedure done. However, you may also be contemplating the procedure and feeling apprehensive about what you should do before the treatment to prepare. Here's a closer look at some of the things you can do to prepare for your PRP therapy.
Discontinue Some Medications
Before your therapy, you may need to discontinue some of the medications that you are taking. It is strongly recommended that you discontinue any type of blood thinning medication. These medications can become problematic because they may cause excessive bleeding during and after the procedure.
Your doctor will tell you how many days before the procedure you should stop taking these medications. Even if you're not taking blood thinners, some over-the-counter drugs contain anti-inflammatory medications. You will need to discontinue these as well. Be sure to ask your doctor to go into more detail with you about this.
Drink Fluids
You must drink plenty of fluids on the days leading up to the procedure. Try to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. This will make it easier to draw your blood. If you're not very disciplined with water you can try using an app, or printed water intake sheet to track your water intake.
A good rule of thumb is to have two glasses of water when you get up in the morning. You can have another two or three glasses at lunch. Drink two more glasses with your dinner. This way you would have had enough water for the day.
Get Cleaned Up
It is okay for you to wash your hair before the procedure. You can go ahead and wash your hair on the morning of the treatment so that you remove any products that may still be in your hair.
You can use your regular shampoo for washing, nothing special is needed. Once you have washed your hair do not apply any type of styling products to it. This means that gels and hair spray are off-limits.
Enjoy the Benefits
PRP Therapy is one of the most effective forms of treatment out there for hair loss and restoration. It's not for everyone but if you are a good candidate you can expect to get results with continued treatment. Just make sure that you take care of yourself in the proper way before the treatment so it has a great chance of success.
