What To Expect After Your Tummy Tuck Surgery

Surgery of any type is going to require recovery time and take a good while before you're feeling yourself again. If you're opting to have a tummy tuck surgery, you should know what you are getting yourself into beforehand and what you should expect after the surgery. Read on for information about tummy tuck surgery and what you can expect.

Swelling And Pain

You may experience swelling or even bloating after your surgery. This will go down in the days after the surgery. Just as with any surgical procedure, your body is going to need time to heal. Your abdomen will be swollen, and you may even feel a throbbing in your stomach or abdominal area. You may also feel heat at the surgical site, which is normal. If, however, your temperature goes up it may indicate an infection. Contact your doctor right away if this happens.

You will feel some pain after surgery, which is why you are given a prescription for pain medication. Don't wait to take this medication. If you are feeling a lot of pain, take it - that's what it's there for. Follow the instructions on this medication and take it as directed. With this pain and because you aren't going to want to move around too much after surgery, you're going to need help from family or friends. Be sure you have a comfy place to sit and relax for at least a few days. Make sure you have a lot of soft pillows and a table nearby to keep your medication, something to drink, and food. A way to contact your helper should also be located nearby as well.

Difficulty Moving Around

You're going to have a hard time moving around in the days after your surgery. This is when your helper will come in handy. Regular activities such as showering, getting to the bathroom, or getting off of the toilet, getting up from sitting or laying down may all be difficult tasks. Be sure you have someone with you for at least a week after your surgery. If you have small children, you may need help for a little longer. You aren't going to be able to lift your children or anything heavy for a few weeks after your surgery.

Surgery is a big deal no matter what type it is. Tummy tuck surgery is an optional surgery that should take careful consideration. If you're ready for this type of surgery, be sure you have a recovery care plan in place. Talk to your surgeon about what else you can expect after your surgery.
