If you always feel bad in the spring months, you likely have allergies. There are many things you could be allergic to which can make it difficult to determine what is making you feel so bad. To help you, below are two types of allergies you may have.
1. Tree Pollen
There are many trees that produce pollen, which many people are allergic to. This allergy is referred to as hay fever. Because winters are warmer in many areas of the country, trees are blooming quicker, which means the allergy symptoms may start sooner than spring.
Some common trees that produce pollen include:
- Maple
- Ash
- Elm
- Sycamore
- Oak
- Hickory
- Walnut
- Poplar
If you have these trees in your yard and react to the pollen, you will first start sneezing, feel congested, and have itchy nose, ears, mouth, and eyes. You will feel better on rainy days. You will also feel better on days that have no wind. This is because the pollen needs wind to make it airborne.
2. Mold and Mildew
Because spring is a rainy season mold and mildew can build up in any area that stays damp. You may have mold inside your home and not realize it. If you are allergic to the mold, you will notice an increase in upper respiratory problems, such as sneezing, watery eyes, and sore throat.
Look in the bathroom behind pipes or any other out of the way place to see if mold or mildew is growing. If so, then you have some type of leak. Also, humidity that builds up inside a bathroom can give mold the dampness it needs. To take care of this, install a bathroom fan and run the fan each time someone takes a hot shower or bath. This will remove the humidity from the air.
Mold and mildew can also grow inside air ducts that route cold or warm air throughout your home. If there are mold and mildew in the ducts, each time your HVAC unit runs the mold spores get into the air inside your home. You can hire a mold remediation company to come to your home to determine if there is mold. If they find anything, they will kill the mold and mildew spores and clean the area to prevent mold from coming back again.
You should make an appointment with an allergist to determine what you are allergic to. They can then provide you with the proper allergy medication to help you feel better. For more information, contact a medical clinic like The Regional Allergy Asthma & Immunology Center, PC.
