Seek Help If You're Encountering These Embarrassing Flatulence-Related Situations

In many cases, flatulence is nothing to be embarrassed about. Everyone has gas at various times of the day, and whether you choose to step into a different room to pass it or simply excuse yourself should others notice, you don't need to get focused on this regular bodily function. There can be times, however, that your gas can deeply embarrass you. If you find yourself in such a scenario, it's a good idea to consult your family physician, who may ask you some questions to determine the likely cause of the flatulence, as well as recommend some medication that will keep your gas at bay. Here are some situations that may compel you to seek help.

You Pass Gas Frequently

People will commonly break wind between 10 and 20 times a day, which may come as a surprise to you. Ideally, you'll view this number as high — but you may also view the average as low if you're convinced that you have flatulence far more times daily. It's easy to feel embarrassed if you're passing gas more frequently than other people. For example, you might be unable to get through a meal without either loudly passing gas or having to excuse yourself. You could be worried why you're gassier than the average adult, and this should compel you to seek medical advice.

You Struggle To Control It

Generally, holding in your gas indefinitely isn't an ideal strategy. Doing so can make you feel bloated and uncomfortable, especially if you've eaten foods that are generating a considerable amount of gas in your digestive system. However, being able to hold your gas for short periods is usually helpful, as you can step out of the room, go into the bathroom, or even go outside to allow the gas to pass. Some people have trouble controlling their gas, which can be a concern.

You Can't Stand The Odor

A person's flatulence can range in odor from mild to extremely pungent. Some people usually pass gas with an odor that is mild, and this may not really bother them or those around them. Other people can often pass gas that is strong-smelling and may clear the room — which can certainly be embarrassing, especially if it happens frequently. If you feel that your flatulence odor is stronger than you'd like, a medical appointment is valuable. The right flatulence medication can be valuable for correcting each of these issues, resulting in less embarrassment for you.
