They pop up seemingly out of nowhere and sometimes grow into a large bubble-like pimple on your eyelid that never comes to a head. A chalazion can be one of the most frustrating eye-related problems a person can have. To make matters worse, if you have a chalazion on an eyelid one time, there is a higher likelihood that one will come back. The primary cause of chalazion is blocked oil glands in your eyelids, so there are some things you may be able to do to combat the problem. Here is a look at some of the things you should change if you continually get chalazions on your eyes.
1. Change how often you rub your eyelids.
One of the biggest reasons people have issues with blocked oil glands around their eyes is because they consistently put their hands and fingers in the area to rub their eyes. Unfortunately, the oil and dirt on your hands can cause issues that result in the development of a chalazion. Pay attention to how frequently you rub your eyes and try to change that habit. If you have issues with eye itchiness, dryness, or sensitivities that make it hard not to touch your eyes, reach out to your optometrist for help. If you must touch your eyes, wash your hands first.
2. Change the brand of eye makeup products you use.
In some cases, the chalazion can develop as a reaction to the eye makeup that you usually wear. For example, if you tend to use a mascara that contains lengthening fibers, those tiny, almost microscopic fibers can clog the oil glands on your eyes. If you've had one chalazion, had it removed, and another comes back, try trading in your eye makeup products for more natural varieties. For example, you can get an all-natural mascara that is free of toxic agents and does not contain fibers.
3. Change how you wash your eyelids.
One of the key causation factors with chalazion is clogged oil glands that naturally release through the pores in the eyelids around your eyelashes. If you are getting chalazion on a regular basis, it could be relative to the fact that your eyes naturally release a lot of oil and should be cleaned more often. Use a gentle facial cleanser or simply baby shampoo to clean your eyes every day thoroughly. Make sure when you do, you take care to remove all small particles of leftover makeup that may be gathered around your lashes.
