There are two chemicals found in medical marijuana that are believed to have health benefits. The first is CBD. This chemical creates no high. The second is THC, which produces a high. There are hundreds of chemical compounds in Marijuana, and at least 60 of them are CBDs. The ratio of CBD and THC in your marijuana will affect how the marijuana influences you.
Equal Amounts of CBD and THC
A common starting point is to choose medical marijuana that has equal parts of CBD and THC. This blend can treat a range of diseases and has fewer side effects. This can be useful for patients with Multiple Sclerosis, insomnia, spasticity, nausea, anxiety, and certain forms of cancer.
THC Only
One alternative is medical marijuana that is THC dominant. This is a ratio of 0:1. This type of ratio would reduce anxiety, reduce inflammation and increase appetite. The increase in appetite can be useful for those who struggle with a diminished appetite as a side effect of the medical condition. However, introducing CBD to your marijuana will reduce psychoactive side effects such as anxiety.
THC-Dominant
A ratio of 1:3 contains some CBD, but is dominated by THC. This is often used as an advanced pain reliever and also has the other benefits of a pure THC blend. On the other hand, a more CBD-dominant ratio of 3:1 is useful for those suffering from gastrointestinal disorders, Crohn's Disease, arthritis, and autoimmune disorders.
CBD-Dominant
If you want minimal psychoactivity, you may need a medical marijuana treatment that has a ratio as high as 25:1. CBD-dominant medical marijuana is used to treat depression, seizures, psychosis, PTSD, Parkinson's, and Huntington's Disease.
Whole-Plant Vs. CBD Only
Typically, a whole-plant medicine is a better option than marijuana that only contains CBD. A CBD-only product is like an entirely different medicine, and patients develop a tolerance more quickly than they do with a whole-plant medicine. While THC might have some psychoactive side effects, the majority of patients benefit from medical marijuana that contains at least some THC.
When consuming medical marijuana, smoking a joint is not the best way to deliver the medicine. Buccal ingestion, sublingual ingestion, vaping, and topical treatments are more effective. Any extraction method that does not deplete the medical marijuana is ideal. Vaporizers are not only more effective at delivering the health benefits but are also an easier way to use medical marijuana.
